weekly update 10.17-21

Sorry for not getting this out to you before the weekend!  Report cards have taken up every last free moment.  Well, that and the Cardinal games have thrown me off my normal schedule.  Here's what's going on this week:

Spelling:  Green group test on Monday.  Yellow group test on Tuesday.  Blue group is working on 22 within word list, Green group will be working on 15 syllable and affixes list, and Yellow group will be working on 4 within words list.

Social Studies:  We are continuing to study St. Louis Early Settlers.  Students will be role playing and writing letters to family members about life in St. Louis during the 1800's.  I'm excited to see how this study comes to full circle as they tour the Old Courthouse and the Arch Museum on Thursday!  We will also work on reading line graphs and making morse code sentences!

Math:  We will test over chapter 5 on Tuesday, and begin Ch. 6 on Wednesday.  Ch. 6 will focus on Money!  Students generally have a difficult time finding change from $5.00.  So if real world experience lends itself, please help your child practice adding and subtracting money.

Science:  We will be reviewing food chains and food webs.  An open book quiz will be given on Wednesday.  Then we will review for our unit test.  This test will not be open book and will be next week.

Reading:  We are working on developing individual reading goals for second quarter.  We will continue reviewing various strategies with online games and activities.

Writing:  Students will work on their "How?" stories.  They will need to write about how something came to be...for example...How did zebra's get their stripes?  This will provide students with a creative and imaginary outlet for writing with a specific purpose.

Important Dates:
Thursday- Old Courthouse field trip.  Please make sure your child brings a sack lunch to school; we will be eating a picnic lunch under the Arch.  Please make sure  you pay attention to the weather forecast for this day, as your child will be spending time outside.
Saturday- Boonanza at the high school 4-8pm
