Halloween Week Update

I am so happy that I got to meet with you at conferences!  I enjoyed talking about the progress your child is making.  I LOVE bragging about your kids to you!
Here is what is happening next week:
Spelling:  Blue group test on Monday, Green group test on Tuesday, Yellow group test on Wednesday
Social Studies:  We will be reviewing chapter 5 next week.  Our test will be on Thursday!  Then we will begin our study of Government!
Math:  We will be reviewing chapter 6 (money) Monday and Tuesday.  Our test will be Wednesday.  Then we will move to studying time.
Science:  We will begin the study of the our planet Earth, and our solar system.  We will begin by studying how the Earth moves and why we have seasons.
Reading:  We will be using our reading strategies to infer what will come next in our books.  Inferring is when good readers use what they know and uses what the author tells them to make smart guesses as to what will happen next.  Sometimes authors don't clearly and obviously tell us everything.  They often use clues.  We are going to be finding those clues, to help us better understand our reading.
Writing:  We will be working on word choice.  As authors we want to keep our readers interested and excited, so we will be choosing our words carefully.  We will also look at the difference of word choice and voice in narrative pieces and expository print.

Important Dates:
Monday:  Halloween!  Bring costumes to school.  Parade at 1:20, Party from 1:45-2:45
Tuesday:  SPTG meeting 5:45
Friday:  Picture Retake Day
