Weekly Update Aug 29-Sept 2

Parents, thank you for coming to curriculum night last night.  It was a pleasure seeing you again.  If you have any other questions regarding third grade expectations, please feel free to contact me, anytime.
Here's what's happening next week:

Spelling:  Continued set up and review of routines.  Students are currently using the names of their classmates as words to work with in the daily activity.
Social Studies:  Continued study of communities, laws, citizens. We will have a short quiz on Wednesday over the material.  The remaining week we will be learning about how rural, urban, and suburban communities are alike and different.
Math:  Complete chapter one.  Test on Thursday.  I am sending home the bonus home activity packet on Friday, August 26th.  Please use this to help your child practice the skills that will be tested next week.
Science:  What do plants need to live?  We will do an experiment with celery.  And we will be looking at different types of leaves, discovering what the different shape, color, and size tell us about that plant.
Writing:  We will be learning about the writing process, paying careful attention to the revising and editing stage.  Students will do an activity with clay, then write a descriptive piece about their creation.
Reading:  We will be reading various types of text and making several connections (text to self, text to text, and text to world).

FYI:
Dylan T.'s birthday on Wednesday!
Entertainment books and order $ due on MONDAY!
Library on Thursday

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and week ahead!
